Review: Dead and Gone by Charlaine Harris

Dead and Gone (Southern Vampire Mysteries, 9) by Charlaine Harris
Paranormal Romance/Urban Fantasy
Ace (May 5, 2009)
320 pages

From Amazon.com:

Except for Sookie Stackhouse, folks in Bon Temps, Louisiana, know little about vamps—and nothing about weres.
Until now. The weres and shifters have finally decided to reveal their existence to the ordinary world. At first all goes well. Then the mutilated body of a were-panther is found near the bar where Sookie works—and she feels compelled to discover who, human or otherwise, did it.

But there’s a far greater danger threatening Bon Temps. A race of unhuman beings—older, more powerful, and more secretive than vampires or werewolves—is preparing for war. And Sookie finds herself an all-too human pawn in their battle.
Ok, I'll admit it. This is guaranteed to be a biased interveiw since I am a huge fan of the Southern Vampire series. I've been waiting a year to find out what would come next for Sookie and crew and Ms. Harris did not dissappoint. I'm going to keep this one pretty spoiler free for those who haven't gotten to it yet.

This time around Sookie finds herself threatened due to her recently established familial connections to her great-grandfather and fairy prince, Niall. Combine that with the fallout from the revelation of the Weres to the world, and you get an endless supply of turmoil for Sookie.

Hopefully you were expecting the story to be more lighthearted this time around after the somber note that From Dead to Worse left off on. Dead and Gone just takes things one step further with more death and personal tragedy for Sookie. Plus, the dangling issue of Eric and Sookie's relationship, and where Bill and Quinn fit into it all, is addressed if not solved.

No, barely anything is satisfyingly resolved in this book - which turns out to be a good because it just serves to leave the reader wanting for more. I thoroughly enjoyed this chapter in Sookie's tale. It does what any good saga does best, provides and prolongs the drama.

Grade: B

I completely agree. Especially with how that ending left us hanging.
