Guest Post: Why Mollie? How To Create A Character by KT Grant

Today I'm lucky enough to host KT Grant, author of three erotic romance novels. Her contemporary release, For the Love of Mollie, was just released this month. Some of you may also know her as the blogger Katiebabs of Babbling About Books, and More! I'm glad to have her here talking a bit about her heroine, Mollie and want went into creating her.

Why Mollie? How To Create A Character

One of the hardest parts when starting on a new book is coming up with the main protagonist, the character that the story revolves around. For the Love of Mollie and the character of Mollie McGree came out of my own experiences with my body image and weight issues. I've always dreamed about the perfect man sweeping me off my feet and not caring what I look like or if I'm not under a certain weight number or have a pants size too big. So many romances that I've read has a perfect looking heroine. My favorite romances are those with the not so perfect hero or heroine. These two characters may have specific traits that those other characters around them may find lacking. It could be their face, personality or their body. For the heroine, it's usually their disgust over the size of their chest or too many curves too count.

I've always wanted to write a romance with a heroine, who feels she's too curvy, is shocked by the hero who comes along and thinks she is perfect the way she is. The hardest part is writing a believable story where the handsome hero is attractive to the heroine. In turn she thinks she is all wrong for this man because of what she looks like. Mollie is beautiful. She has a curly black Herbal Essence type hair, a wonderful smile and looks great in a dress. So what if she may be a double digit size? She bemoans about her too big hips and thighs and decides she wants to do something about it. The reason she takes action is that she's attracted to her very good friend, Juan-Carlos, a sexy Cuban masseuse. Mollie thinks if she gets rid of her extra weight, Juan-Carlos will be interested in her and take their friendship to the next level. Out of nowhere comes Conner Bean, a younger, smoking hot man who sees Mollie and is instantly smitten. The thing with Conner is that even though he promotes health and fitness, and is surrounded by beautiful women who are afraid to eat because they think they'll get fat, is that he finds women with curves, exactly like Mollie, to be his ideal woman.

One of the favorite things while writing For the Love of Mollie was having Conner seducing Mollie through his stares, caresses and even with food. Conner becomes so aroused as he watches Mollie eating chocolate covered strawberries. He goes as far in his mind to want to eat chocolate off her body! And because Conner loves watching Mollie eat them, she in turn enjoys them also and doesn’t feel guilty about eating these treats.

By the time Conner shows Mollie how special she is to him and that she is everything beautiful and wonderful, Mollie beings to think that about herself because of Conner's love.

Are there any books you have enjoyed reading where the hero or heroine may think they are not so perfect on the outside?
